The OET Test is the leading English test for healthcare professionals. The test provides a valid and reliable assessment of all four language skills – listening, reading, writing, and speaking – with an emphasis on communication in healthcare professional settings.

What’s in the OET test?
The test is divided into four sub-tests:
Listening sub-test
45 minutes
Complete the sub-test in 3 parts:
Part A: Two seperate consultations between a healthcare professional and a patient
Part B: Six short dialogues or monologues in workplace settings
Part C: Two long presentations or interviews with health professionals
Reading sub-test:
60 minutes
Complete the sub-test in 3 parts:
Part A: An expeditious (fast) reading task
Part B: Six short workplace extracts
Part C: Two long healthcare-related articles
Writing sub-test:
45 minutes
Write a letter - usually to another healthcare professional, based on case notes or documentation.
Speaking sub-test
20 minutes
Participate in two healthcare consultation role plays to assess both English language skills and clinical communication skills. You'll perform the role of the practitioner, and the interviewer plays the patient or patient's relative/carer.

Test day format
The three written sub-tests will take approximately three hours. In addition, the Speaking sub-test is also scheduled on the same day. For more detail on the test day information, go to: Test Day information | OET
Arrival time
AEO Pakistan will email you with the test date schedule. Please follow the instructions you receive. Registration will start at 7:00 AM and close at 8:15 AM.
When you arrive, you will need to:
- Sign the candidate register
- Show the valid ID document you used when you applied for the OET Test (link to more information about accepted ID)
- Get your digital photograph taken
