How to calculate the cost of studying abroad?
Studying abroad in international universities is the dream of many students in Pakistan. Students want to explore the unique experience of studying abroad and enjoy high-quality lifestyle. But studying abroad can be expensive. Students need to first assess and calculate the cost of studying and living abroad. This blog will give you a brief idea about the various expenses involved if you opt to student abroad.
University fee is the major concern and expense of studying abroad. University fee depends on various factors whether the university is a private or public sector university, what is the university ranking etc. and it also varies from country to country. Education in some countries is more expensive comparative to others. It all depends upon your budget; accordingly, you should decide which country/university you may apply to. Similarly, public-sector universities are less expensive as compared to private-sector universities. Some universities also offer scholarships. To calculate university fee, the easiest way is to first visit each university’s website and see the cost per semester/annual fee of the particular program. Create an excel sheet for comparative statement, where you may note down fees of different universities and programs and compare which one suits you better.
Traveling from home country to your opted study destination is another major expense for Pakistani students. This traveling cost may include airplane tickets, visa, logistics etc. The price of airplane tickets can vary according to the airline you choose. Traveling expenses also include the cost of traveling to/from campus to hostel or wherever you intend to stay. If you love to travel and want to explore the country in which you are going to study, then include that expense in your budget as well.
The rent of the apartment is another major expense that students must bear. The rental expense can vary. Some cities are more expensive comparative to others. The rent of the apartment also depends upon the location in the city. If the university has accommodation inside the campus, then that is a better option for students but if students have to live outside the campus, then it can be more expensive. These expenses can also depend upon the average wage rate of that city. So, students should keep both wages and rent in mind.
Grocery and food
Grocery and food expenses are one of major expenses, that students must keep in mind. The grocery and food expenses depend upon the quality of food and also if the student intend to cook food at home/hostel. If students cook food at their own, it is more affordable whereas eating at restaurants can be more expensive.
Shopping expenses varies from person to person. If you are a shopaholic, you must calculate/include this cost in your budget. If you have limited budget, avoid unnecessary shopping.
There are some miscellaneous expenses that students must account for in their budget. These expenses may include laundry expenses, local cell phone charges, sim and internet charges, and gym membership charges etc.
Studying abroad is costly. If students have to bear expenses on their own, they might face difficulty. But if students are able to secure a good scholarship by the university that can be a big advantage. If you want study abroad, worried about what to do and what not?
